Your visit includes a guided tour of a traditional Chagga hut — exploring its architecture, layout, and the rhythms of daily life within its walls. From there, step into our Cultural Historical Centre for a guided exhibition featuring Chagga artefacts, historical objects, and the customs that have defined this community across generations.
You'll also witness a step-by-step demonstration of brewing mbege, the beloved traditional banana beer — and enjoy a live presentation on the history of coffee in Kilimanjaro, culminating in a traditional Chagga coffee-making demonstration that ends with a taste you won't forget.

Set off along a rustic trail through the surrounding villages, pausing to meet and interact with local community members along the way. En route, you'll encounter one of the region's most remarkable cultural landmarks — a centuries-old mfereji (traditional irrigation channel), an ingenious feat of engineering that still flows today and stands as a proud symbol of Chagga ingenuity and heritage. The hike continues to a scenic nearby river, where the landscape opens up and the pace of modern life feels very far away.

Walk through picturesque Chagga villages on your way to Kisanja Cascade — a serene waterfall with a layered history. Once believed to be the dwelling of spirits, later used as a site of spiritual cleansing, and eventually harnessed by the Catholic mission as a clean water source for the local community, Kisanja carries centuries of meaning in its mist.
Along the way, you'll visit a historic Catholic church and receive a guided tour of the first Catholic mission in Uru East — a fascinating window into the interplay of culture, faith, and community that has shaped this region.

This hands-on session brings you into the heart of Chagga culinary tradition — using time-honoured methods, open fire, and fresh local ingredients. You'll take an active part at every stage: preparing the ingredients, building the fire, and cooking the meal from scratch. Together, guests prepare a spread of beloved dishes including Mtori, Pilau, Chapati, and Chicken Curry — and then sit down to enjoy everything they've made. Warm, communal, and genuinely delicious.
